Emergency Items You Should Have In YOUR Car

Did you know that only 5% of drivers carry all of the recommended emergency supplies in their car? This figure can be astounding when you realize that the average number of car accidents in the U.S. is 6 million EVERY YEAR. One in twenty people have what they need in their car to be prepared for an emergency, and at Bledsoe's, we don't think that's enough. At Bledsoe's Towing and Automotive we see a lot of accidents, some major, some minor, and we believe it's important to have everything you need so you can handle the situation and be prepared.

Here are the suggested items that you need to keep in your vehicle so that you can be prepared for even the most minor fender bender.

Reflective Hazard Triangle or Road Flares

As long as it's safe to do so, you can put flares or reflective triangles behind your vehicle so that people will know you are there.

First-Aid Kit

This standard kit is obvious, even if you use it for scrapes on the baseball field. You won't regret carrying it around when you need it.

Jumper Cables

For obvious reasons, even if you aren't in an accident, jumper cables can be a huge help. In many cases, your car, or the car of someone else needs a jump, and you'll be thankful that you have these in those situations.

Windshield Scraper & Brush

Maybe you don't FEEL like you need these, but there can be freak storms, detours, and sometimes just getting lost where you could potentially run into winter weather and be glad you have this on hand.

Spare Tire

Many cars come with a spare tire in their trunk already, and if you don't have one, you need to make sure you do. You also want to have the supplies to change your tire, so if you have a surprise flat you can take care of it before bringing it to the best tire repair shop at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Blankets & Extra Warm Clothing

No matter what the weather looks like, a spare change of clothes and a blanket could come in handy. In the winter, you might want to wrap up in it when your car gets stranded, and in the summer you can always use it as a picnic blanket!

AM/FM Radio

If your car dies, and your either outside of cell phone reception or your phone has also died, you will be glad to have another source to listen to any updates.

Bottles of Water

You will want to have one bottle of water per person in your vehicle. A safe bet is to have one per seat in your car.

High Calorie, Nonperishable Food

Peanut butter, granola bars, crackers. There are many items you can find that will last, and you'll be glad to have them if you have to wait for any period of time for response vehicles to arrive.

Road Salt

This may not seem as important in the summer, but in the winter, if you get stuck anywhere, you'll want to have road salt or kitty litter to help you get out of snow drifts.

Brightly Colored Distress Sign

This is a small sign or flag that can attach to your antenna so alert others around that you are in distress.

Flashlight & Extra Batteries

You can use this to help see in the dark, and draw attention to yourself when you're stranded.

Tarp

This will come in handy if you are performing automotive work outside in any types of weather.
